The joint operation of the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service intercepted a 70 kilogram ice bust found in furniture that was shipped from Hong Kong. According to the authorities, the worth of said methamphetamine can reach up to $42 million.
Earlier this month, the customs office received a tip off from an unnamed source and acted immediately. The shipping container arrived in Sydney from Hong Kong. It carried with it, an outdoor dining set. However, after further inspection of the package including X-rays, the authorities were shocked to see 70 kilos of the drug that was hidden inside the frame of five lounges.
The AFP, in conjunction with customs officers, moved in on an operation in Fairfield. Homes were raided in Sydney overnight where three Sydney men were arrested. They are expected to appear in Sydney Central Local Court, represented by Alex Jones of Bosscher Lawyers.
