Carmody Inquiry
The alleged sexual assault of a 14 year old girl at the John Oxley Youth Centre in the 1980’s has resulted in two decades of accusations that the incoming Goss government shredded certain evidence that was gathered in the Heiner inquiry in 1989 – 1990.
Peter Coyne, the former John Oxley Centre manager told this week’s Carmody inquiry that he never discussed the sexual assault allegation of May 1988 with the retired Magistrate Noel Heiner, whom headed the earlier 8 week inquiry. Coyne did however reject any suggestion that the issue had been covered up.
Coyne described the ongoing allegation of sexual abuse at the John Oxley Centre as “ridiculous” and a “storm in a teacup”, which was exaggerated over several inquiries by former union official and whistleblower, Kevin Lindeberg.
